Knowledgebase: Importing videos and playlists

Importing videos from YouTube is easy and quick, meaning you can learn whatever you want within the cool features of our virtual learning environment.

Note: this video assumes you've already made at least one video category. If you haven't yet, and you're unsure what that means, be sure to first check out the Knowledgebase tutorial on managing video categories.

That out of the way, we're now going to look at how to import videos and playlists from YouTube.

The video import page

Once again our starting point is the My Videos page, accessible via the link at the top of every page (assuming you're logged in.)

Once on the My Videos page, click the white "Add videos" button towards the top. That'll take you to the video import screen.

The first thing it'll ask is what you want to import, either:

  • a single YouTube video
  • an entire YouTube playlist
  • an entire YouTube channel

Whichever you choose, you're going to need to get hold of the URL, i.e. web address of the video/playlist/channel in question. To do this, open a new tab in your web browser, and go to the video/playlist/channel. Then, copy the URL shown in your browser's address bar, then paste it into the field back in the TuitionKit tab.

Once you've got the YouTube URL into the field, hit the "Fetch" button. The video(s) will now be fetched and a preview will be shown below. This will show a single video if that's all you're importing, but if you're importing an entire playlist or channel, each video will also have a checkbox to its left, allowing you to nominate which of the playlist/channel will be imported. This is useful if you want to import some videos but not all.

Categorising imported videos

At the bottom of the page you'll see a tree of categories, just like we saw on the Manage Categories page in the previous tutorial. We now need to select one or more categories that the imported video(s) will go into.

Like with the Managing Categories page, to see sub-categories, click the "+" icons to the left of root category names and they'll expand to show sub-categories beneath them.

Once you've selected at least one category you're good to go! Hit the "Save videos" button, and you can now view your videos any time by going to the My Videos page accessible via the link at the top of every page.
