In this GCSE biology revision video our GCSE biology tutor discusses: Mitosis and Meiosis
Cell cycle is the process which makes new cells. There are two steps of a cell cycle; cell growth and mitosis. In cell growth, the number of organelles doubles and an exact copy of the genetic material is made. During mitosis, chromosomes separate and cell divides. There are two types of cell division; mitosis and meiosis. Mitosis makes copies of original cells while meiosis makes gametes. In mitosis, the number of chromosomes in daughter cells remains same. In meiosis, the number of chromosomes is halved in the daughter cells. When fertilisation happens, the number of chromosomes is completed in a zygote.
